Claire Affleck began riding as a young child, competing at the international level as a junior rider. It was at the age of 12 that she first began to work with unstarted young horses. The thrill of starting and bringing along a horse has never faded for her. She has trained with many great horsemen such as George Morris, Michael Page, Aiden O’Connell, and Beezie Madden and competed at some of the nations top shows such as The Destiny USA Grand Prix, Devon, Warrenton, HITS Culpeper and HITS Saugerties, The Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament and The Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL.
Claire is a graduate of Sweet Briar College in VA, where she earned her B.A. in psychology. While at SBC, Claire rode on their very competitive ISHA team, and ‘A’ circuit hunter show team, she also taught in the riding program. She also was able to study aboard in Scotland at St. Andrew’s University for a year and was able to compete internationally in dressage and jumpers.
Claire now is a member of the Genesee Valley Hunt Club, the Limestone Creek Hunt Club, judges local horse shows, focuses on starting young horses under saddle, and bringing along her students. She is also the NYS Horse Education Committee Representative for Onondaga County and a member of the Onondaga County 4-H Youth Fair Horse Show Planning Committee.
Of course, like any great enterprise, Claire Affleck Training is a community of energetic, compassionate, generous and dedicated people. Students, boarders, family, volunteers, and staff work and play together for the good of horse and human!
